Each year, Rwanda comes together to reflect, mourn, and remember the tragic events of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. Known as Kwibuka, which translates to "to remember" in Kinyarwanda, this national event serves as a solemn occasion to honor the lives lost, recognize the survivors, and reaffirm the country’s commitment to unity and healing.
Reflections Through Photos
Pictures from Kwibuka events carry deep emotional weight, often showing survivors, young and old, as they engage in moments of reflection or share personal stories. These images capture the heart of Rwanda’s journey from devastation to hope. Faces of grief, yet also faces of determination, are juxtaposed with the vibrant progress the country has made in rebuilding its social fabric.
Kwibuka is not only a time to remember the past but also to look toward the future. As Rwanda continues to heal, the annual remembrance serves as a reminder to the world that unity, peace, and forgiveness can prevail even after unimaginable tragedy.
